10 Reasons To Stop Using Social Media

10 Reasons to Stop Using Social Media

We could pretend that social media is the greatest thing since sliced bread or we could look at the reality of the situation. So many people praise the benefits of social media, but where are the benefits? All I see is a bunch of people running around trying to get “likes.”

What in the heck is a like? It is a quick hit of dopamine for you and it soothes you temporarily, until you need another hit. So instead of doing hard work, working out, or making money, you're on the social media searching for a like. Give me a break. Likes don't pay the bills, money pays the bills and you'll never make any money if you don't break the addiction to likes.

On the flip-side, you have the people who actually DO the “liking”. These are the people who live vicariously through the social media superstars. Instead of going out and living their own life, they're stuck in the bedroom looking at Billy Big-Guns on the social media and sending a goddamn like to him.

Or maybe you're one of the 10,000 guys who like Becky Bubble-Butt's social media posts because she has a nice butt. Guess what she'd say to you, “you're nice, but I like Billy Big-Guns” and you're so weak and meek from social media you'd say “yeah, I like him too too. Thanks for talking to me. Byeiloveyousomuch.”

This is how you fix this nonsense…

Here Are 10 Reasons To Stop Using Social Media

1) Social media saps your energy

Social media is the biggest thief or your energy because you spend all day looking at it. Your energy could be better spent building an internet business. You're already on the internet anyway, why are you wasting so much time liking things and living through other men when you could be building your own internet business, making money and living a great life.

2) You will be more creative when you quit social media

Why create anything after you've already gotten your like? That's the same thing the junkie says after he scores his marijuana. Why do any work, man? After you get a like, you've already gotten your dopamine, your “relief.” There is no reason to continue working after you have already gotten the recognition and that's why you don't do any work after becoming addicted to social media. You get a quick little hit for doing a tiny bit of work and it's enough to satisfy your urge to create (though it leaves you deeply unfulfilled). There are almost no great living artists today, that is because everybody is addicted to social media. Instead of creating great work, they make social media posts and wait around for likes.

3) Your ability to focus will be better when you quit social media

The draw of social media is that it is constant entertainment. The second you try to get away, Billy Big-Guns posts another social media snippet that draws you in. When you're done with him, Becky Bubble-Butt posts something and on and on and on. All of this constant multi-tasking leaves you with a debilitating weakness: you no longer have any ability to actually focus on doing one thing. Actually, you have no ability to focus on anything at all. You become so accustomed to focusing for 5 seconds at a time and then moving on. You become basically functionally retarded when you're on social media.

4) Social media is an addiction

Social media is an endless cycle of “liking” or getting “likes”. What happens after the instant hit of dopamine goes away? You run around like a sewer rat chasing more likes or more things to like. Eventually you chase yourself into the ground. Go to a mirror and look at your eyes for god's sake. Social media addiction is as bad as marijuana addiction because it's everywhere. Nearly every person is infected with social media syndrome. Don't you think it's time to break that nasty social media addiction? They can't break their disgusting habits but you can break yours.

5) Social media kills your patience

These darn kids today want everything yesterday. You know why they have no patience? Because these social media websites gives them instant gratification, like a rat in a cage who pushes the right button and gets a hit of sugar. Because you get instant gratification, you have no concept of waiting longer to get better things. You become petulant, a permanent spoiled child. In the real world you MUST be patient because success never comes right away, success takes a long time to come. The goddess of success hates impatient people and she tries her hardest to make you quit as quickly as possible. Social media junkies are conditioned to quit at the first sign of having to do any work.

6) Social media doesn't actually work as “media” or advertising

Social media only works as advertising if you are an already established businessman or artist. Otherwise it doesn't work. This should be obvious but it's not. So many young and hungry dreamers want the money that comes with the internet business and they actually believe that getting on social media is going to do it for them. They're in a for a rude awakening because nobody gives a damn about you until you make them give a damn. How do you make them care about you in the first place? By creating great work. The more time you waste on social media, the less time you work on creating something great. It makes no sense to stay on social media for a moment of mediocrity when you could be building a lifetime of greatness.

7) After you quit social media your work ethic will be better

After you quit social media, your work ethic will become better because you will actually have the time, and the energy, to actually do work instead of looking at other people's pretend lives. Social media previously took up all of your time. When you quit social media there will be a void of time, you will need something to do. You can use that time to be bored or you can use that time to work. The best thing you can do is devote that time to doing deals, making money and creating great art.

8) You will have better posture after you quit social media

Have you ever been outside and actually looked at other people? This is a serious question as you may be one of those people who never look away from their phones. Do this next time you go outside, pull your black eyes away from your phone for ten seconds and look at other people. You will notice one thing: all of those people have their heads down, glued to their phones. Why is that important? Because that kills your posture. Instead of walking straight up like a man, you walk with your head down so much it becomes permanent. Science says we already evolved away from chimpanzees, don't go back! Throw the social media accounts away and walk upright.

9) You will be smarter after you quit social media

Everybody starts their social media addiction with vigor and everybody always ends frazzled. Does this look familiar?

Like, like, like, like, dislike, like like like dislike likelikelikedislikelike liek like lklelekl dislike like sklilekl slike like dislike like lik llilekl.

That is your brain on social media. You start out smart, but the longer you stay on social media the more retarded you become. Get smart and quit the social media obsession.

10) Quitting social media will unlock the door of your mental prison

When you're stuck in social media world, you're actually stuck in a mental prison and you never escape. Even when you're outside, you're still on your stupid phone looking at social media. You may as well be in a fluorescent office 24 hours per day. You are meant to be outside, to roam free like a wolf, howling at the moon and fishing in the sun. You are not meant to stare at a phone all day liking Billy Big-Guns' social media posts. Eventually you'll start lashing out at your social media superstars because you're locked inside all day and need to vent. Despite all your rage, you'll always be locked up like a rat in a cage until you say goodbye to social media. Life is meant to be lived outside, so go outside and live life.

How to Stop Using Social Media

Go cold turkey. Develop iron self-dicipline and just stop using social media. You'll feel like you're missing out only for the first day and then you'll feel like such a fool for wasting all of your time on social media when there are better things to do. Namely, building your body in the gym and building your business on the internet. Instead of being busy liking other men like Billy Big-Guns, you can be busy laughing all the way to the bank like his big brother, William Winner-Wolf.

Social media is another limbo where the only thing that happens is that ”people always have a better life than u”.

And PEOPLE STILL are glued to it all day long.

      I simply dont get it.

They say “social media is the greatest thing since sliced bread “. But sliced bread isn’t great, it’s outright harmful. That’s why bread and social media are two another great lies. Quit them both to get ahead in life faster.
Likes are quick hits of dopamine. But there are noots like N acetyl l tyrosine, uridine and others which give you motivational dopamine boost as if you’ve just got 100000 likes on fb.

Social Media is a huge time waster! Not only that they collect your information and advertise the things you saw or liked on Social Media. Whether its a picture or some product. They will take your information and sell it to Corporations. Also they are able to track your every move even if you are not using Social Media.

Like Google they track your every move! Its best just to leave it alone and do your own thing!

Getting Social Media out of your life is easy! Just delete those apps from your phone and computer. You will go through a withdrawal period for about a week after that you should be okay!

    Great Post Victor!

Social media distorts our reality and turns leaders into followers.

Everything thinks they have their own unique opinion but they can’t think for themselves cause everyone’s reading the same bs.

Social media used to rob me of my time. It would punch holes and slowly take away every bit of time of the day.

Time is invaluable and it can’t be replaced.

Quit social media and reclaim control of your life.

    Master Self Discipline.

The tool of social media is good in theory, but like you said it becomes a drug and fries most people’s brains.

I’ve found whenever I check Facebook or Snapchat it never adds to my life.

Staring at other peoples’ updates pulls you down to their small-minded level.

Who cares about a picture of Sally’s salad, Tommy’s dog or whoever’s new kid? It’s all stupid and the time would be better spent doing almost ANYTHING instead.

Sitting around breathing and doing nothing is better than staring at social media because at least you’re not being brainwashed by the posts and pictures of idiots.

Yea, but what if you’re one of the lucky ones who works for an employer who insists that you use some work based social media (not FB or Twitter. Some work based Social Media/Chat client). You can TRY not to use it much, but then you’ll get hassled by your manager to use it. They’ll refer to it as “Team Building”. We already spend more time with co-workers than family. I don’t need to use “Social Media” on the job. I find it annoying and pointless, but Management insists on it…

    Another great article, Victor.

The things that you see on social media is just not real. It’s what you call as ‘fabricated.’

Social media was invented to become the means of socialising, and connecting with people you are away with. But it had turned into a platform to flaunt.

Women in exposing attires, pouting their mouths flaunt their ‘beautified’ pictures, and men ( most of them) flaunt their materialistic possessions. Both are unhealthy, and ways of seeking approval- another side effect of social media.

But the thing that annoys me most about it is that everybody seems to be extremely knowledgeable and expert on everything on it. The 12 year old kid who has yet to learn the laws of physics, gives a detailed explanation on rocket science on his facebook account.

MJ Demarco, the author of the book, ‘Unscripted’ put it best when he said that social media is a ‘hyper reality.’

If you are more concerned about the hyper reality, than the real world, then it’s safe to assume that your life is shit.

I was myself researching into the topic of social media and it’s negative effects on the youth to publish on my blog. Guess you one up’d me.

    Your fan,

    Kumar

Only 10 reasons?? That must have been a daunting task to narrow it down to that. Can add its mostly a libtard/SJW echo chamber. Heaven forbid somebody has views that jump off the liberal plantation, which generally gets one banned. Its verifiable that it is monitored by intelligence agencies. The product being ‘sold’ is the users of it. Everybody on there is now a commodity being sold to corporations for advertising. And its just plain retarded. Ever since MySpace first came about, just sounded like a horrible idea. Never used any, never will. For me, if someone is not currently in my life, there is probably a good reason for it.

‘It only takes a second’. True, but what you see will get you riled up for another 15 minutes, and if doesn’t than what was the point of it anyway.

Also, we’re told to fill every spare moment with something. It is in the silence of nothingness though that you are able to hear your subconscious speak to you about your mission and the solutions to move forward.

All the stuff posted this week ties together. Don’t meditate, just wait for that 5 minute gap in your day when the answer will come to you (as long as you aren’t wasted on mind numbing substances).

#11 - Whenever you post something on social media, you are creating content for other people, namely the millionaires and billionaires who are the actual beneficiaries of social media, not the users. You should be creating content for your own platform, namely a Blog website. This is one of the key principles I’ve seen repeated over and over by Victor on this website and he is absolutely right. It points to the fact that we spend a lot of energy, time, and money padding the pockets of other people when we should be filling up our own. That’s how a person can develop a business owner mentality… Which doesn’t come from using (anti-)social media.

And, yes, I just provided free content for Victor’s website, which I’m happy to do because it adds value to my life - unlike any social media experience I’ve ever had.

I remember when I started blogging you mentioned staying away from social media and building a body of work first. Of course, I didn’t listen and went searching for my audience. It was a fool’s errand. I wasted time which would have been better invested in learning or creating. The few people I did attract to my site didn’t have much to read anyways….

Putting social media away has helped hone my time in deep work and as a result increased productivity in all areas of my life. Considering a large portion of your audience are bloggers, this article is extremely relevant. I see way too many new guys like myself making the same mistakes. I think it stems from ego. I thought I could make money before I made myself. I know I’m not the first to fall victim to this trap and I bet social media is why many never succeed in this awesome journey.

Depends on what you are on social media for.

I use social media as a producer, not a consumer. The only reason I’m on Facebook is because it helps me run ads that run my business. And there’s nothing out there which can match the effectiveness of Facebook ads in terms of targeting and conversions. Probably Google AdWords but that’s just too expensive.

Only time you should be using social media is if you have online business and it helps you generate more sales.

Other than that, you get no value from social media.

    Learn ‘applicable knowledge’ from the Best;
Earn ‘$$$’ from the Rest (masses).

  27. AvatarNoJobNoProblem says

Whereas the absolute braindead masses have their non-stop sports actions and welfare (their modern day bread and circuses), the modern, “intellectual”, “educated” man has his million billion social media accounts. Anyone who wastes their time trying to “impress” their friends on social media instead of living the life they want is a pathetic joke.

They’ll always tell you they’re not addicted and could give it up at any time. But watch how many times that guy will pull out his phone to check his updates, upwards of 100 times per day if not more.

    Great article Victor!

99.9 % of people I see spent all their time on social media. They randomly scroll through their feed for their next dopamine feed.

Nobody can just be in the moment and be creative. They are all dependant on their dopamine hit to get them through the day because most peoples lives are so shitty, the only thing that makes them feel better is looking at other peoples “amazing” live on social media and wishing it was theirs.

But all that does is further worsening their situation. As you say, social media destroys their focus, creativity, and self-worth. It is poison and the masses will forever stay in their position if they don’t change their social-media usage.

The only reason to use social media is for business and making money. And as you say, it’s nearly useless for most people that try to make money through social media.

They neglect the most important thing which is CREATING GREAT WORK.

Focus all your time and effort on creating the best possible work you can and then promote it through social media and the internet.

But creativity and great work should be the focus, not mentally masturbating over fake internet-points.

So listen to Vic guys, quit your social media accounts and start living life and working hard like a mother fu**er to achieve your goals!

Same thing as the news I don’t want to know that a school got shot up or that someone was murdered in another country.

I deleted my facebook and instagram a couple years ago and it was one of the best decisions ive made in my life. I used to always use it as a way to fill time, and then it would be a constant relief after doing something for a long time. If i was focusing on something it would always be on the back burner of my mind check my social media. Now, i focus on things longer and don’t feel like there is something waiting for me to check every 30 seconds.

Unless you are in the other side of social media advertising your product / service and buying traffic to your website to scale the sales , spending your day scanning feeds is literally a SUICIDE!!!!

I agree, but in the case of retails you don’t need to have your own established name exemple : shopify… You target the audience and buy traffic to your website for conversions.

An important topic and your observations are correct.

Speaking of “cold turkey” there is a free app called Cold Turkey that effectively blocks all those time-sucking websites. For some of my older Win7 PCs have had to install the latest MS Explorer but the free version works well enough to cut my access to all the crap. From reviewing my work output saw huge productivity when I had blocked all the garbage content.

It’s tough at first after you have made a habit of reading political blogs. After a week or so you forget why you were ever paying attention. When the Cold Turkey timer runs out and you can see them again you notice how all the damn websites are essentially serving up the same copycat content. Most of them have converged to a nearly identical theme which is a matrix of click-bait stories each featuring somebody’s brilliant takedown of the trending outrage of the hour.

I wrote a similar post on my blog with links to the tools :

    http://wp.me/p6QFjS-h9

My son says “if you don’t pay attention to it, it doesn’t exist”. Don’t know if he came up with that but it’s good advice.

Social media is masturbation, & for the weak minded. People addicted to living vicariously through others & pretending to be something they’re not. Also a huge reason for the decline of standards in society & the “empowerment” of victim mentality.

Thank you for posting this. I especially like the part about there being no great living artists for the most part now. Social media also takes away any air of mystery in the dating world. If you want to know all there is about someone you simply go on their Facebook or Instagram then there’s nothing to figure out with them you already know everything. It takes a little fun out of it for both sexes.
