What Would You Do if You Knew You Were Going to Die in Two Years?

Imagine…

You have just been given the news. You will die in two years. It is unavoidable.

You now have to choose what you will do with your remaining time on Earth.

What will you do……..

Will you finish your degree and put yourself into massive debt?

Will you continue working your job as a wage slave and keep paying off your debt?

Will you live for the weekends only?

Will you go home every night, order a pizza and a 2 liter of Coke, turn on the boob tube and drown out your sorrows?

Will you go shopping for the latest gadgets that “make your life easier”?

Will you sell everything you own and take a trip around the world?

Will you go sky-diving?

Will you visit the Great Wall of China?

Will you go hike in the mountains at sunrise every morning?

Will you go to Starbucks and order a non-fat vanilla chocolate mocha Frappuccino every morning on your way to work?

Will you be scared to approach all the beautiful women you see every day?

Will you keep playing World of Warcraft 19 hours a day?

Will you update your Facebook first thing?

Will you ever even turn on your computer again?

Will you buy a golf-cart to use as your daily driver?

Will you go to Australia and motorcycle across the continent?

Will you walk through the Sahara desert?

Will you live on a beach in the Philippines?

Will you take out a 2nd mortgage on your house and lease a new car to keep up with the Jones's?

What if you knew you were going to die in 20 years? 40 years? Would you do what you are doing right now?

It's all a blink of an eye.

livefortoday-ds Make that blink count for something.

This post is another right on the money. Everyday you hear people talking about how this could be your last day on earth, but they sit around and snack on chips, or laugh at funny cat videos. That is what motivates me to be my best, the inferior.

    Thanks for the post, Deven

I know how much you promote working for YOURSELF, but I sincerely believe in the possibiilities of working for others…no, not being someone’s gopher to be dictated to, but…I don’t believe in an afterlife, does it fucking matter if I get laid and have money and shit? Yeah, sure, it might comfort me to have such a close intimate partner and certainly that dough will let me achieve whatever ambitions I have much easier…however, it’s meaningless when I die and so I believe in research and technology and learning our place in the universe…yeah, it sounds a little nerdy, but is it really beta? It needs real discipline to lay off all the distracting self-indulgences and really kick your own ass to work on that, IMO

I feel the same. I need a microscope or some apprenticeship to learn these things, but I need some resources. It’s not as easy as books. i’m recently out of high school, and I have very limited money. maybe 100$

When you really “get” this …. every breath is a gift….
The heaver the weights the lighter the load…..
The stronger I get the further I can see…
    Effort equals gain…
The older I get the younger I become
and the knowledge evolves into wisdom….

A nurse reported the top 5 regrets of dying people…

    1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
    2. I wish I didn’t work so hard.
    3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
    4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
    5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

    Cheers,
    D

I have just been diagnosed with Huntington. I have probably 15 good years to go. I am absolutely clueless to what is next. I am 26 now, been working since 16.

Miyamoto Musashi’s book (The Book of Five Rings) is the best book I have ever read. He wrote to live as if already dead and focus on objectives with peace and tranquility.

What about making the best financial decisions so that your family will not have to worry about money or debt after your death. Such as knowing how much of your income you need to save, how much mortgage you can pay off and how much life insurance your family will be payed out. I mean you could piss away your last years on this earth or your could make it better for your spouse and children. (currently awaiting Huntington’s disease diagnosis).

I do not think, anyone can really say what they would do, until they are faced with the reality they are going to die.

In the past weeks, I learned my fate, and given about 2 to 3 years. Non operable, no cure..

I am not reacting to the news at all, like I thought I would. You do not know how you mind will respond, until you are given the news.
